Project Objectives and Strategy

We intend to address the need to involve marginalised adults in a learning process that encourages community involvement and interaction, tackling the apathy associated with disempowerment and lack of connections with the personal and environmental sustainability issues that affect them.

Concrete objectives

  • To exchange experience and create learning activities that develop learners’ key competences such as learning to learn, social integration, civic responsibility, awareness of their own impact on sustainability, sense of initiative.
  • To develop within all the partner institutions frameworks of integrating new sustainability learning tools, methods and approaches that can be carried forward into other areas of each institution’s work.
  • To create, through the activities, a variety of enriching and interactive gardens in the urban environment.
  • To create pathways for socially disadvantaged and marginalised members of the community into adult education and community involvement, enhancing their support network and sense of value.
  • To disseminate the results of the project at local, national and international levels.

  • Organize transnational meetings for staff, trainers and learners in order to exchange experiences, best practices and learning outcomes from each institution, along with ideas on developing educational activities for urban gardening and sustainable living. This will be via workshops, tours showcases of concrete examples, e.g. gardens, and other activities.
  • Using new knowledge and skills gained from transnational meetings, partners will create urban gardening and sustainable living courses (e.g. healthy eating, herb growing, greener household, etc) and activities for their target socially disadvantaged learner groups.
  • The above courses and activities will be designed to culminate in the creation of city gardens in balconies and neglected urban spaces and the setting up of and participation in celebratory public events such as The Restaurant Day for giving the international focus on the traditional healthy food made by using production from urban gardens.
  • Produce flyers, posters and learning material in English and in the partners’ local languages to promote courses, activities and events locally.
  • Produce and create a website in English and accompanying printed booklet collating and d disseminating the best initiatives, actions, ideas and activities implemented by the partnership along with the results.
